Back in the saddle

I know I haven't posted in awhile, so here's a brief update...

Work finished up well at the Wyoming Dinosaur Center. The work was fun, but my lungs, at least, are happy to have left--there's always a lot of dust around and the glues give me a headache. Oh, the trials and tribulations of science. :-)

I'm back in Hays, all moved in, and currently working on my third day of classes. I just completed registration for the GSA meeting in Salt Lake City in October, where I will be presenting a poster (eeeee! so nervous) and doing my best to network and contact potential PhD programs. I probably won't make it to SVP this year, which is sad, but GSA is supposed to be a whole different ball game, and I'm looking forward to it.

Side note to Whittie Geo folks: Will anyone else be going? Let me know!

I'm still living in the dorms at Fort Hays, which is OK because it's _so_ much cheaper than renting an apartment, but Wiest Hall is kind of like a cell block. It's a big square, and my room is on the inside, meaning my only view is across to the next person's window. Once again, Chris has ended up with a big, sunny window with a fabulous view, which he _never uses_. Grr. On the up side, he lives right upstairs from me, so that's useful. Apparently, I nearly ended up on the same floor as him, because some moron in ResLife didn't realise that "Frances" is a girl's name. Oh well.

Thesis work is coming along. Slowly. Tomorrow I have the morning off, so I'll be in here dutifully making arrangements to get the necessary specimens. Dr. Farley brought me a dessicated murrelet from California, which I'll need to de-flesh at some point. Could be smelly. But once I get rid of the squishy bits, I'll have another specimen to measure. Yay!

Ok, I told Chris I'd meet him for lunch here in about ten minutes, so I should probably get going.
